WILLOWTOWN

DOG RUN

The redevelopment of Willowtown Dog Run included a complete drainage overhaul to remedy pooling and flooding issues that made the beloved neighborhood resource unusable, even in a light rain.

The effort included regrading, development of French drains, and resurfacing with a generous layer of (paw friendly!) native gravel. Then, with drainage work completed, the team focused on creating a unique sense of place for neighbors and dogs alike.

20,000 GALLONS DIVERTED PER YEAR

SEWERSHED: RH-014

OUTFALL: EAST RIVER (LOWER)

Inspired by the geological history of the neighborhood, the re-imagined run features native gravel, sand, and locally-sourced boulders that evoke the post-glacial profile of the nearby shoreline. Reclaimed concrete tubes create opportunities for play, and a stone edge keeps gravel from spilling into the street at the feet of enthusiastic pups.
