Cherub’s Court

A classic bluestone patio steps out the back door and up, creating two versatile rooms for family play, dining and entertaining amidst a sculptural focal point in the garden behind an elegant Park Slope brownstone.

A combination of shade-tolerant shrubs and perennials, including skimmia, rodgersia, clethra, heuchera, and anemone wraps around the upper patio, where a specimen cornus kousa ‘Venus’ creates a focal point. Clusters of classic, Italian terra cotta pots planted with pieris, aronia, rhus aromatica, fothergilla, and assorted perennials create layered interest and help define seating, cooking, and sidewalk chalk-drawing spaces.
